What to expect after reaching out about accessing support
Online Consultation:
I will contact you to arrange an initial 15-minute online consultation, which is free of charge. This is an opportunity for introductions, for us to think about the difficulties you are experiencing and establish if my skillset will meet your needs. If there are other disciplines or services that may be more appropriate for your experiences, I can also signpost you to other available support.
Assessment:
If you decide that I am the right fit for you or your child, we will start with an assessment session to further explore your current difficulties. This will usually involve talking about your thoughts and feelings, as well as previous life experiences to help me understand what might be influencing how you feel currently. We will discuss your goals for therapy and I can provide some more information about the type of interventions I offer and how they might support you. When working with young children, I aim to provide a comfortable and psychologically safe environment. This may include initially playing some games or doing arts and crafts to encourage their engagement in therapy, alongside our intervention.
Intervention:
Therapy sessions are usually 50 minutes long, but will be tailored to meet the needs of the client if this is not tolerable. We may choose to meet weekly or fortnightly depending on your individual experiences. I aim to build a positive and collaborative therapeutic relationship with my clients, and therefore encourage you to share your preferences about our therapy as we go along. You are, of course, under no obligation to commit to attending a set number of therapy sessions, if you wish to discontinue.
