What is Clinical Psychology and how can it help?

Like physical health, mental health impacts everyone in different ways. At times, seeking additional psychological support can be beneficial and help to improve your emotional wellbeing. Clinical Psychologists are trained to assess and understand what may be influencing a person's mental health, to support them to better manage their difficult experiences. We work with people of all ages who experience physical or emotional distress, and have therefore gained lots of experience working across various acute, mental health and social care settings.

Clinical Psychologists provide assessment and therapeutic support to individuals, and they can also work with couples, groups and families depending on their experiences. We are, therefore, trained in a diverse range of psychological models and approaches and can adapt these to a person's individual needs.

'Clinical Psychologist' is a protected title that is achieved after many years of studying at university and working in the field of mental health. Our knowledge and extensive training means that we can provide evidence-based interventions for a variety of psychological difficulties. Clinical Psychologists are also required to register with the Health Care Professions Council, to ensure our practice is regulated and our clients are always treated safely.

About Devon

Accessing psychological support can be anxiety provoking, and it is important to find a therapist who feels like a good fit for you. I am a Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist and offer psychological assessment and interventions to children, adolescents and adults in both physical and mental health settings. In addition to my private practice, I work in an NHS Intensive Care Unit , providing psychological support to those affected by life-changing illnesses and medical events.

I am committed to delivering the highest quality of care to clients by tailoring my approach to meet the individual’s needs and preferences. I understand that therapy can feel challenging at times and I therefore prioritise providing a safe and compassionate space for clients to share their experiences in their own time. My area of specialist interest is supporting those who have experienced psychological trauma related to their physical health and those with long-term health conditions.
